Monday, April 30th, 2007

Today I slept in instead of running, and headed off late to my Game Theory course. Afterwards I went to Table Tennis where we went over our forehand attack. From there I went to lunch with Julie at Jimmy John's and since then I've been studying my Finance 725 and took a break only long enough to get dinner with Joe at Rusty Bucket before continuing my studying until now when I'm going to sleep. My goal for tomorrow is to get up at 8:00 and then go running, and study for the rest of the day until my exam. Hopefully that works out! I'm also hoping to get my letters into Notre Dame and Boston University this week, as these are the only schools (other than Ohio State) that I'm thinking about for law school next year. Hopefully everything works out with the wait lists. Below is what I've eaten today so I can monitor my caloric intake:

Lunch: Tuna Salad Sandwich on Wheat, Baked Lays Chips, Diet Coke @ Jimmy John's

Dinner: Mac & Cheese, Water @ Rusty Bucket

And that's all I've got. I heard the song, "Melissa" by the Allman Brothers Band today while I was at Rusty Bucket with Joe. I plan on listening to some more of the Allman Brothers Band after hearing it today. It was very soothing. Joe and I also realized that we're 41 days away from Commencement on June 10th. That's pretty crazy. I can't wait!

April 29th, 2007

Today was a Sunday so as usual, it was spent catching up and preparing for the next week's events. It also meant another installment of Entourage and 24/7 (a show covering the build up to the Floyd Mayweather vs. Oscar de la Hoya fight on May 5th). I had a meeting tonight as well and have been working on follow-up letters to the schools where I've been waitlisted. For the next week though, I've made a gameplan. On Tuesday, I have a midterm in Finance, and on Thursday I have a midterm in my International Studies course. So this week will go as follows:
On Monday, I will finish my waitlist letters, and study Finance. On Tuesday, I will read Leader of the Future 2 and write reflections, and on Wednesday I will study International Studies. On Thursday and then throughout the weekend I will focus on preparing for next week's work and finishing Wikinomics as well as starting some of the other books I have on my list to read. This past week has been hectic and this next week will also be a challenge, but I hope starting tomorrow morning off right with a run will be just what the doctor ordered.

Lunch: 2 pieces medium pineapple pan pizza, cheesy breadsticks, diet pepsi @ Pizza Hut

Dinner: Regular 3 way, cheese coney @ Skyline

Weekend, April 27-29

This weekend has been relatively boring. Not much new to write about. Friday, I spent the day watching 24 and hanging out until I headed over to dinner at Wendell's. There were about sixteen of us there for dinner, then headed back to the house and hung out with Jason before going out with Patrick.

Saturday I headed back to Cincinnati to help out with some things at home. Julie and I headed down to Sawyer Point and I took her on a tour of the east side, traveling through Mariemont, Indian Hill, and parts of Hyde Park and Mt. Lookout. I signed up for a Law Preview course as well for this summer, hoping to help prepare for the upcoming law school year.

Right now, unfortunately for the law school situation, it's still up in the air. I've heard no final word from the University of North Carolina, and I'm on the provisional list or waitlist at Boston College, Boston University, and the University of Notre Dame. I've been accepted to Ohio State's Moritz College of Law though so for sure I will be going to law school next year.

As for today, I'll be getting out some letters to the schools where I am waitlisted and see if we can get some positive responses back. Other than that, just catching up on my leadership class with some reading of Leader of the Future 2.

22 Cities

In early July of 2006, I packed my things and flew to Europe. Since then, I have traveled to six countries and twenty-two cities, by my last count. Over the summer, while taking classes in Dijon, France I traveled on the weekends to Paris, Nice, Frankfurt, the Loire Valley, Amsterdam, and Rome before returning to Cincinnati after my two months of studying and travel ended.

Returning to the US, my mother and I took two weeks to visit Law Schools. First we went to Charlottesville, where we visited the University of Virginia. Then we headed north to Washington D.C. where we took tours of George Washington University and Georgetown Law School. Afterwards we headed to Philadelphia where we stayed with relatives and visited the Law School at UPenn. We then continued our East Coast trip to New York City and visited Columbia and New York University. For the final leg of our tour we went to Boston to tour Boston University and Boston College.

Upon returning to Columbus for Autumn Quarter, I was inundated with activities from Welcome Week to Homecoming Week where I was fortunate enough to serve on the Homecoming Court. I made trips to Dayton and Cleveland before taking a long weekend to Chicago with Joe and Beau for Beau's 21st Birthday, an away football game at Northwestern, and my interview for Northwestern's Law School.

Over Winter Break, I spent a week with my Emerging Markets Field Study class in Guadalajara, Mexico where I roomed with Ryan and Alon. After returning to Columbus for the first few days of Winter Quarter 2007 in early January, my friends and i traveled to Phoenix, Arizona for the NCAA Football National Championship. For the rest of Winter Quarter, I was relatively stationary, until Spring Break.

My first trip over Spring Break was to Notre Dame Law School in South Bend, Indiana to take a tour and meet with the Admissions Office. I sat in on a class and felt that the visit was very informational. Shortly after I returned to Cincinnati, Joe, Perry and I traveled to St. Louis, Missouri for the Midwest Regionals in the Basketball NCAA Tournament (Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games). We saw Butler, Florida, Oregon and UNLV play for a Final Four spot. We also watched Ohio State on TV beat Tennessee and Memphis to make it to the Final Four. The next weekend, Perry, Scott B, and I traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to see the Final Four and NCAA Basketball Championships. We saw Ohio State, Georgetown, Florida, and UCLA play.

A few weeks ago I made it back to Cincinnati for Easter and made it out to Glendale to see Joe's new house. Two weeks ago, I headed up to Chicago for the second time this year, this time for my fraternity's formal. I'm not sure when again I will be able to travel so often and to so many different cities. I have been truly blessed to have the friends and family to support me in my travels and endeavors and it has been and will continue to be an amazing year.

Getting Started

I'm starting a new blog, inspired by reading the book Wikinomics, so here goes nothing. My goal in setting this up is to create a sense of accountability for myself to myself and to my friends. I plan on having a paragraph or so about the day and then below, what I've eaten, and how I've worked out. Today is the first day so there will be more.

This quarter, now until June 10th, I have three goals. The first is to lose fifteen pounds. I'll keep track of this one privately, but eating healthy and working out are my means to attain this one. Next is to get a 3.7 quarterly GPA. This GPA will raise my cumulative GPA to above a 3.5, the level necessary to graduate with honors. Finally, my goal is to decide on where I'm going to law school. So that's where we are right now. Below I'll include for today what I've eaten and what workout I did.

Breakfast: Bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios at home,
Mint Mocha,Coffee, Bagel & Cream Cheese from Brennan's in Hagarty Hall

Lunch: Greek Chicken Wrap, Diet Pepsi, Pretzels at the place that used to be Nick's Diner on Neil Ave.

Dinner: Apple Walnut Tuna Salad, Chips and Salsa, Diet Coke (lots of it) at Camille's

Workout: Unfortunately no workout today, bad way to start this, huh?

Today was a relatively busy day. I had a midterm in my Game Theory class (Economics 601), then in Table Tennis we had a tournament which was a lot of fun. Following I had lunch and then set this up before dinner and Order of Omega inductions. Finally tonight I had my Senior Leadership Seminar with our Vice President of Student Affairs, Rich Hollingsworth. It's been a great day and I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I have two homeworks due so I'll need to knock those out.
